Athlete Spotlight - Christine Moore - Article

I asked Christine to write an article for the Blog! Christine has a great future in our sport, and is well loved by the team! In a discussion we were having, she made a couple of REALLY great points, and wanted to share them with you all. Enjoy

The Figure Athlete’s Weight Watchers

This is a shout out to all you SG2Victory and Fitness Factory girls. The other day Shannon and I were talking about the importance of posing. I had brought a perspective to the act of attending posing practice and Shannon asked me to share a little bit about what I said. So here is my food for thought….

I know as strong iron-pushing women with powerful physiques and the aspiration to be the best we can be; sometimes we may feel like we can take on the world. That we can handle whatever situations play out in our individual daily lives. But sometimes this just isn’t the case and like Shannon would say to me, “Suck up your ego and do not be ashamed to reach out for help when you need it!”

I know as a competitor, the stresses to be perfect are high, and the expectations you hold yourself to are high as well. I will be the first to admit that sometimes I need an extra push, no matter how much I love what I do, no matter how much I love to step on stage and present my best package, we are human too, and we cannot be perfect all the time.  Life happens, good AND bad, and it all affects our daily decisions. But it’s how we handle those decisions that make the difference.

Being a figure athlete is a world of its own, we are unique to any other athlete, we are meticulous, driven and selfish at times, but we are also in a sport that requires A LOT of energy, A LOT of dedication, and A LOT of time,  all of those things not many of our population can handle. And so that brings me to my point…

When you start to get tired or start to stray and think that it’s ok to skip out on posing practice just because you are not prepping for a competition, please think again!

I’m going to blast myself and say yes this was me. After my last competition I busted ass, placed second, entered off season and as Shannon told me, “(I) fell of the face of the earth for a minute.” I still trained, and tried to stick to my diet for the most part, but by this I mean I underestimated the importance of actually attending posing. And it’s not what you think it is.

Yes, posing helps keep our muscles sharp, helps with conditioning and our presentation, to really set us apart from other teams and athletes; it definitely is all of these things. But what I really like to compare it to is a figure athlete’s Weight Watchers meeting!

Think about it! Attending posing helps hold us accountable, to check in once a week and make connections with our peers and teammates. To have support in a sport that a lot of people do not understand, to keep us motivated and on track with our goals, but most importantly having a band of sisters that all know the exact sweat and sacrifice we all go through to make it onto that stage and push our mind, bodies and souls past its limits.

I know after a long week of busting ass on the stepmill there’s no one I’d rather gripe about #18 to than Shannon and my other SG2Victory teammates.

So before you start to stray, Shannon had a great suggestion to use the 48 hour rule, if after two days of bullshit you are still struggling to get it together, call, email, text, twitter….whatever your choice of communication may be.

You are not alone, we all deal with it, so reach out and ask for help no matter what the situation, because this is just as much of a mental sport as it is physical, and you know what….we aren’t perfect and we all need a little help sometimes!

LOVE THE CAMERA...

Normally, I let all the athletes get in front of the camera - I help by fixing your hair, making sure your suit or sports bra is strategically placed...you don't have an oddly placed limb in the shoot....

But, I hired Jim Wallingford to take some shots of me the other weekend, and I just had the BEST TIME!

Jim makes the shoots fun, relaxed and gives you the opportunity to do what you want. I had some ideas on what I wanted, and it is true, you should get at least 1 - 5 shots out of an entire hour that are rock solid perfect....Well, I Got So Many More Than That! I had so much fun being a goof ball - totally serious - blank faced - laughing my head off - sultry - and spunky that I have too many pictures to choose from! Well, there never is really TOO many pictures!

I needed to update all my marketing materials and the Website, so I have several more shoots scheduled throughout the spring with Jim! I just appreciate the fact that He allows me to TRY different things - get the shots I need, try new angles, intensity, and get those great shots that every girl wants!

Thanks Jim! Looking forward to the next one!

* A great Big thank you to our very own, Christine Moore, for giving us the heads up on what SHE has done in the past! This is what she does:

"You can probably throw in there that if any of us wants to save a little money, and cannot purchase the sun laboratories face tanner, that you can use a dime size amount of face lotion and a half pump of the hi-def jan tana, mix it together and smooth on. It really works just as well, I even use it in the off season for a little sun kissed look to the face. You can also head into any sephora and ask to sample facial tints, I know clinique has a great facial tint that is a gel, I used it for the Ironman. They will give you a sample size to take home that is just enough for the comp and a little more!

Also, if would rather buy your makeup rather than have it shipped. MAC has a great foundation that matches perfectly to Jan Tana. Ask for studio tech in NC44 (fairer skinor NC45 (warm skin or a little on the tanner side, like me!). They both match wonderfully depending on your skin complexion and is great at staying put under the stage lights!

You may already know all of this, but I thought I would throw that in there since I am the queen of trying to get the maximum out of the minimum! lol ~C"

THANKS!

2010 Feb Bellevue, WA Mike Davies Bootcamp - RECAP

O.....M......G.......

We know Mike.

We know what he can do.

We know what he wants us to do.

We now know what we are capable of.

There is something about having Mike Davies take you through a bootcamp, workout,  more workouts, and some plyometrics, and another workout, that just brings the BEST out of you.

A great big THANK YOU to Mike for flying out here to Seattle to whip all of us ladies into shape! We had 27 athletes attend this event, and it was our BEST to Date!

Thank you to all the ladies who attended this year's 2010 Bellevue, WA Mike Davies Boot Camp weekend!

Everyone brought it.

And even though some weren't too sure about how they'd do over the weekend, you brought forth your very best, and I can honestly say...I was impressed!

Jim Wallingford was on Hand to take pix at our Friday night bootcamp. Thank you Jim for rocking it for us!

http://www.jimwallingford.com/Events/Mike-Davies-Bellevue-Boot-Camp/11156246_NzfiC#781954947_oesSn

The Bootcamp began innocently enough, nice INTENSE GO GO GO GO warm up...followed by a nice INTENSE GO GO GO GO split Strength  move / Agility move / Stength move combo. It was so great to have so many dedicated women there! All shapes, all sizes, all different athletic levels...one thing happend between all of us, WE DIDNT QUIT, WE DIDN't STOP, and we had AN INCREDIBLE TIME!

Fun - aboslutley.

Intense - positively.

Exciting - indubidibly.

Everyone lost weight this weekend, just the shear amount of sweating that took place locked us all in motivating zones, carried on into this week and beyond!

Leukemia & Lymphoma Societ... For Baily

I Was Forwarded this Email from one of our Fitness Friends, Lindsay on Behalf of her friend Heather:

Dear Friends and Family,

Cancer sucks.  It’s okay to say that, to scream it.  I don’t think anyone will get mad at you for it.  My three year old, Caleb, says it and even has a shirt that says it.   CANCER SUCKS!!!  I learned that the hard way this last year and now I am going to do something about that cancer.  I’m going to run a marathon.  Crazy, I know and go ahead and tell me that all you want.  You can say “how are you, little miss prancing ballerina, going to run a mile?”  A mile, ha!  Try 26 miles!  Okay, I’m not even going to try 26 miles quite yet but I will try 13!  I have decided to run in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Rock N Roll Seattle Marathon in June 2010

In April of 2009, my 3 year old son Baily was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  The tumor in his chest was 11cm, the size of a small soccer ball.  Baily had to give up going to preschool, the zoo, petting zoos, playing with his friends, going to church or anywhere that there were large crowds of people indoor.  This 3 year old boy was poked and prodded, spent weeks in the hospital, had an outrageous amount of scans, took medicines that made him throw up, lost all of his hair, and kept on smiling.  Baily turned 4 years old during his fight with cancer and I swear he was more like 34; he was forced to grow up very fast.  Baily endured 5 different chemo treatments and radiation, and had started testing at Fred Hutchinson for his life-saving, last chance option, Stem cell Transplant at the end of October of 2009.  Two days into testing we found out that not only was the tumor still active and growing but the cancer had spread into his lungs.  Back to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital we went on October 30th.  Baily never made it out of the hospital.  He died there on November 17th, 2009, from cancer.  Four years old.

So I’m mad.  I’m mad at that cancer and I am going to do everything in my power to help find a cure.  Running a marathon is nothing compared to what Baily and all of the other fighters have to go through.  I’m sure now it is obvious why this cause is so important to me.   I am going to honor my sweet Baily and make him proud, running is such a small thing but it makes a big difference.

Team-in-Training is the largest endurance training program in the country and since 1988 has raised more than $750 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  As a member of Team-in-Training I have coaches, a mentor, and more than 70 teammates to run with.  We are all supporting each other and committing ourselves to raising money for a cure.  I have set a goal to raise $2500 as a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Will you help me meet my goal? It’s so simple to donate online, just go to my team in training page, http://pages.teamintraining.org/wa/rnrseatl10/bennetth. You can check back often to see how I am doing too.  You can also learn about Baily, www.bailybennett.com.

This is the year of change.  I am changing my mind about being mad and doing nothing, now I’m mad and doing something about it.  I’m running…. not away from the hurt, anger and sadness associated with cancer…. but running with purpose, running toward a cure.

With my sincere thanks,

Heather (Marshbank) Bennett

PS: Please feel free to forward this to others that you know who would like to be involved.  This is a great way to start your year off right.  We can all work together to find a cure; one penny at a time, one mile at a time.  Help me run for Baily!

Earthquake Survival RE-teaching

Thanks to Jim Wallingford for forwarding this to me....

Is this ever an eye opener.

Directly opposite of what we've been taught over the years.

I can remember in school being told to, "duck and cover" or stand in a doorway during an earthquake.

This guy's findings are absolutely amazing.

I hope we all remember his survival method if we are ever in an earthquake.

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON THE: "TRIANGLE OF LIFE"

My name is Doug Copp.

I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team.

The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.
I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries...
I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years.

I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.
The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake.

Every child was under its desk.

Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones.

They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles.

It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the aisles.

I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide under something.
Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them.

This space is what I call the "triangle of life".
The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact.

The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured.

The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere.

It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

 TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE are crushed to death.

People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position.

You should too in an earthquake...

It is a natural safety/survival instinct.

You can survive in a smaller void.

Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake.

If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created.

Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight.

Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed.

A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on The back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed.

How ?

If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above.

If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway.

In either case, you will be killed.

7) Never go to the stairs.

The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building).

The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place.

The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated.

Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs.

The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged.

Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people.

They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible -

It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior.

The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway...

The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles.

They were all killed.

They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them.

All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact.

Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Spread the word and save someone's life...

The Entire world is experiencing natural calamities so be prepared.
"We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly".

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be correct.

The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test.

We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside.

Ten mannequins did "duck and cover," and ten mannequins I used in my "triangle of life" survival method.

After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results.

The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions, relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.
There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the "triangle of life."

This film has been seen by millions  of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA, Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

Here is a great article:
Dogs Are A Wonderful Addition To The Family.
Credit: jerry Tidwell "Associated Content"

Owning a dog is one of my greatest pleasures. If you don't own a dog maybe there will be at least one reason listed here to convince you why you should. If you own a dog you already have a million reasons.

1.Dogs Are Good Listeners.
There is nothing better than a really sympathetic listener. A dog will snuggle right up to you and hang on every word you say. Even though you know they can't understand a word you say, it's nice to have a warm body to snuggle with while you cry. They don't ask questions, don't say the wrong thing, they just listen and snuggle. They are probably trying to recall what great thing they did to deserve some much wanted attention like this. Somehow it just really makes you feel better.

2. They Are Always Glad To See You.
It doesn't matter if you left hours ago or five minutes ago, a dog's reaction is always the same. They act like they haven't seen you in forever. You could never get a reaction like that out of anyone else in your family, especially not your cat. Secretly they are probably hoping that you remembered to take them along.

3.Dogs Make You Feel Safe.
This is especially true of females. When some strange person knocks on the door and your dog raises his hackles and growls, it makes you feel much safer. You'd like to think they would protect you if they had to or at least make a person think twice about coming in. I know my dogs will see and hear anything that comes in the house well before I do. I also really feel like when my husband is gone my dogs are in a more protective mindset. At least they seem to be and that makes me feel safer.

4.Dogs Will Make You Get Exercise.
This alone should be a good motivator. If you live in town your dog is going to need to be walked every day, normally a couple of times. It's not like you can just open the door and let them out. You have to take them and this means you are getting exercise you would normally not get. It makes you feel so much better just to get out. If you live in the country and you can just turn your dog loose you will still get plenty of exercise. There is mud to clean off, burrs to pick out, skunk smells to eliminate, cat's to rescue and many more things that involve some form of exercise.

5.Dogs Teach You Responsibility.
You can not own a dog without being responsible. If you do you will have a messy yard or house. You have to learn to clean up after them. It isn't their fault they are trapped in a tiny yard or in the house. You have to learn to pay attention to their body language. They will tell you when they need out, when they want a walk, when they need water or food. But , you have to be responsible enough to notice these things. Dogs have this little alarm clock inside for dinner time. If you are late they will let you know. One of our dogs brings his bowl to you if he thinks you don't get it.

6. Dogs Love A Good Adventure.
The great thing about a dog is that they think everything is an adventure as long as they are with you. If you have to do a particularly dirty job they are right there. They are willing to slop through mud, help with goats, swim in that dirty tank, go fishing, go for a walk, slop in the rain to feed the horses. As long as they are going they think it's great fun. Later when you are tired and want to hang on the couch, they think there isn't anything better. Hanging with their person on the couch is a perfect day in a dogs eyes. Actually I think dogs think every day is a good day, except maybe trip to the vet day.

7.Prepare You For Children.
In a lot of ways this is true. If you can not handle a dog do not have children. Dogs are a lot of work. Sometimes they are naughty and tear things up. They have to be exercised, fed, watered, disciplined, and loved. If you cannot do these things for a dog you should know that a child is twice the work. A child has even more energy. Unlike dogs they do not spend most of their days sleeping(except when they are really young) so if a dog wears you out a child will even more so.

8.Dogs Teach Your Children How To Love A Pet.
My son is 19 months old now and has been around our two dogs the entire time. Our dogs are wonderful with him. They let him do anything with them. But, this is a great chance to teach your child that animals have feelings too. They have to learn to be gentle, they learn that dogs hurt too, that dogs need care. It is a great way to model the way we should take care of God's creation. Then when they get old enough they can take of one of their own dogs.

9.Dogs Are Good Little Cleaners.
I never have to worry about cleaning up any food that is dropped on the floor. It is almost gone before it hits the floor. Dogs really have a way of making you feel like you are the best cook in the world too. No matter what you are making they hover around usually much more excited than anyone else in the family would. Any food, crumbs, spills, are all taken care of usually before I even have to ask. So they save you a lot of time as well.
10.Dogs Have Huge Hearts.
For some reason God knew we needed an animal like a dog. The emotion they exhibit is not reflected by any other animal or person except maybe a toddler. No matter whether you yell at them, forget about them,or neglect them they some how find it in their heart to not just forgive but love. They don't even just love they love just as huge as they did before. Have you never yelled at your dog and seen how crushed he is? Yet two minutes later it is just as if it never happened. My favorite thing about a dog is their ability to love with their whole heart no matter what.

Athlete Spotlight- IFBB Fitness Professional - Julie Palmer

Gotta love this athlete.

JULIE PALMER, IFBB FITNESS PROFESSIONAL!

http://juliepalmer.com

I love success stories. And Julie's story is a great one, thru trials & thru learning the sport, to competing in the sport, and now at the top of her game, Julie is the true epitome of what Fitness Athletes strive for. She improves each year leaps and bounds, and has one of the tightest physiques onstage. She keeps her body primed and ready year around.

Julie has continued in this sport, learning, growing, and inspiring all of us throughout her career. I make a huge deal about how much of a fan I am of her, and I was so excited to be joining a team like Fitness Factory, where as JULIE is a pillar. I really like this girl. Strong in her actions, strong in her verbiage, strong in her delivery. But with all that strength lies a heart of gold.

We enjoyed Julie when she came out with Mike Davies for our First 2008 Fitness Factory Fitness Camp here in Bellevue, WA! THIS athlete knows a thing or two about BEING an Athlete....She put us thru the cardio ringer, and we are better for it! She worked out in my group for one workout, and I was amazed by her. She's earned her Pro status. This athlete is phenominal.

Thanks Julie for cheering on all of us SG2Victory girls out here in the Pacific Northwest, as we Cheer for you on your 2010 Season. Can't wait to see what you'll be bringing to the stage this year!

We love ya lots and want you to go out there and KICK SOME BOOTIE!

For the New Year; THE OH SHIT MOMENT....

As we go into the New Year, and all the 'festivities' occur, may I please bring this to the table point blank.

I received this email and it stopped me in my tracks.

For all of you SG2Victory Girls, this is a mandatory clip to watch.

"This is a very powerful anti-drinking and driving TV Ad from Australia .  In California , this hits home for all of us and why the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), California Law Enforcement, Avoid the 100 DUI Team, South Bay DUI Team and our Department are so aggressive in locating, arresting and removing DUI drivers off our roadways.  Please take time to watch this TV Ad.   Thanks  "

Happy Birthday to Ms. Terri Stevens!!!!!!

 20080418-_DSC5440

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY
DEAR LOVELY
MS. TERRI STEVENS!!!!

Terri is one of those athletes that can walk onstage and look like she belongs at the Pro Level!

She has one of the tightest physiques I've ever had the pleasure of posing, and she's one hell of firecracker, which I love, because you just cannot teach "Personality"!

Terri, I just love you to bits, and wish you the very best in the world. I cannot wait to see you back on stage.

MERRY CHRISTMAS LADIES!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I wish you all a very Merry FIT- mas!

And if you've been good all year, then Santa should bring you some Orange Roughy, Asparagus & Yam for the day after Christmas!

And if you've been trully good, you'll get a six pack for your spring show! (GRIN)

I wanted to take a moment and tell you all how wonderful you are, truly special individuals who have enriched my life to the fullest. The connections I make with you go well beyond this industry, and you each teach me something new. You make me proud to be apart of your lives, as you grow as women and blossom as athletes.

I have spent some time talking with some of you individually about your strengths, your weaknesses, and your dreams & goals. I just wanted to take a moment and follow up with you.

In December = 75% of us are Fluffy and fat and struggle with the temptations
around us & the cold & wet weather de-motivate us. I want to encourage you to
start incorporating a more strict eating pallet to help minimize calorie impact from
those sweet little temptations! Even getting 50 - 90% of your diet is Encorporate dark green leafy veggies DAILY and
keep up on your Multi Vitamins, Multi Minerals & Vita B, C, D & E.

Drinking your water will help hydrate you (especially if you are tossing a few cold ones back)

Cardio will help keep you sweating, burning calories, and "keeping your head in the game'
so to speak. You eat more? You need to burn more! Even getting in 20-30 minutes as a daily event is still better than couch surfing!

Keeping in touch with your fellow fitness friends is also a great idea! Get in a workout now and again, and keep each other accountable! It's always good to confide in someone

Merry Christmas ladies! Have a great Holiday!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving

I am Truly Gratful for all of you.

Your smiles bring me a sense of satisfaction in a job that I find myself very passionate about.

I love this sport. The Industry takes us to great heigths, and even greater depths.

We learn A.L.O.T. about ourselves, and find strength in becoming champions of the stage. It doesn't matter if we get a trophy, get dead last, or win an overall title. We all Learn incredible life lessons.

This is a Selfish, ego driven sport that some ridicule, give their own "opinions" on how you should compete, cry foul when you take time to do extra cardio instead of cleaning up the house or make dinner for the family, and others just plain drop you as friends.

We, as women, give and give and give until we have given all of ourselves. More times that not, we sacrifice our own health, happiness and dreams. Families come first. Husbands or Boyfriends and the family unit can sometimes dictate our future.

Then, you find yourself alone, with yourself at the end of the day, not even knowing who you are anymore, and are shocked by what you become. A product of your own environment.

That's why I love our sport.

We become HEALTHY. We become physically STRONG. We become mentally TOUGHER to handle all sorts of INTERNAL struggle and EXTERNAL strife.

Our families are not our biggest obstacle.

We are.

How we choose to interact, prioritize, and RE-act to our lives.

I am so excited that with all of you ladies, we have the support, the guidance, and the enthusiasm to make each successful & Victorious! Draw upon the veteran's experiences for insight knowledge, call upon me to answer questions that boggle the mind, and use the nutrition & training that Mike Davies has set out for you to follow.....And there is always progress.

Mike said to me a few months ago, " They don't hand out trophies for progress".... so with that...Strive for much MORE than progress...strive for that coveted top 10 placement!

I also like what our friend Emily in spokane wrote on her blog:
"Eat how your fellow competitors are, but eat cleaner"
"Do what your fellow competitors are doing, but do it better"
"Never miss a workout, and train like your fellow competitors, but train harder & smarter"

Feel this Statement that's on T-shirts already:

"I'm the Competitor your trainer warned you about"

"Right now, you wish you would have trained harder"

And my FAV is,

"No one ever drowned in sweat. Keep going"

&

"No excuses. Only choices"

So, as we head into the first HOLIDAY WEEKEND (halloween doesn't count!)....

Take the time to reconnect with your family. really let them know what you need, and how it can be integrated together. Just because you're going to compete, doesn't give you the free range to be a meannie, skip on your responsibilites and just forget to pay your power bill. Get your head in the right spot....get your team behind you, and envision yourself doing it all! We all can. Don't fool yourself...it's not that hard.  And beshides, you will have me there for you 100% of the way!

Happy Birthday MIKE DAVIES!

He's the man.....totally the man. And thanks to Julie Palmer for rocking it and helping him continue to be the man.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE! YOU'RE THE BEST!

We love and appreciate you two so much, and I wanted to share what our local athletes are saying.

But First, Directly from his website, Mike's Bio...

The Fitness Factory’s success is not limited to the realm of sports… other clients include Miss Teenage Ohio and other pageant contestants, popular fitness models, television personalities, and mainstream media stars.  You can view numerous photos within this website of individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have found phenomenal success in improving their physical health and overall quality of life with coaching from Mike.  With over 16 years of experience and a list of champions a mile long, you cannot go wrong with The Fitness Factory!

Mike Davies has guided me out of my obesity after my car accident, and he continues to guide me to success. I appreciate having Julie Palmer there to send an encouraging email too!

Monthly workout programs build you in the right places, and trim down in the other right places! Online Fitness Factory Express offers a Video glossary of the workouts, and an extensive CD-Rom series brings Mike right into your home! Mike is so laid back, but in a really intense way! He motivates you be a better YOU!~”

Here is what some Fitness Factory ladies & SG2Victory teammates are saying:

“I am a mother of four in my forties and I have been training with Mike Davies since 2005.  His nutrition plans are nutritious with lots to eat and they have helped me to maintain a healthy looking physique all year round and even during pregnancy.  I especially like his workouts as they are fun and never repetitive.  Combined, they recently helped me to get back into shape for Canadian Nationals right after baby #4, where I placed 5th in fitness.  Competing or not I highly recommend his boot camp.”
Sherry Boudreau-Jensen ~Fitness Athlete
www.sherryboudreau.com

“I've worked with Mike Davies for two shows and my biggest compliments are that he is outright honest and expects a lot from his competitors. He expects nothing but the best and that in itself made me push harder the days I really didn't feel like it. He has many clients but is always quick to respond to e-mails and calls. Mike is great and I highly recommend him!”

Casey Tuttle ~ Figure Athlete

“Mike Davies is a hard-ass! In a good way though. He wont lie to you and say you're ready to go on stage when your not, he wont sugar coat what he thinks about how things are going, he's honest, upfront and will tell you exactly what YOU need to do to not only go on stage, but to win as well. “

Melissa Mitchell ~ Fitness Athlete

“I have been training with Mike Davies since April of 2008.  In the first six weeks my body fat percentage dropped 10% and I felt better and looked better than I think I have ever looked in my life.  I have learned to trust Mike after training with him for so long.  I know that if I do exactly what he says my body will come in looking its best. His job isn't easy but he somehow makes you feel like you are his only client. I always feel like I get the personal attention that I need. I think he has a gift of making every client feel special and important.

I look at him like a coach rather than just a nutritionist. He says what I need to hear when I need to hear it and somehow knows just what to say to keep me motivated.  There have been times I needed a good butt chewing to get back on track. He can be tough! But he does it because he cares.  And the butt chewing’s work!  Even though we train online I always feel like I am one of his only clients. He gets back to me right away if I have a question. He always makes me feel like he is there backing me up and giving me support. It is easy to take people for granted and always expect more.  I always feel like he gives too much and I can't ever thank him enough.”

Monica Gallagher ~ Masters Figure Athlete

Mike Davies was so supportive while I was getting ready for my competition.  Whenever I had a question regarding my nutrition plan, he'd respond back to me within 24 hrs.  I was really impressed by his support at the Emerald Cup.  Not only did he meet with me the night before to offer feedback, but he was my biggest cheerleader in the audience.  He would shout out pointers to me on stage and it really helped! I also really enjoyed the Boot camp that he and Julie put on. It was a great camp and I learned how to step up my workouts.  Mike comes highly recommended by me!”

Lauren Huber ~ Figure Athlete

“Mike Davies work-outs routines & Fitness glossary have helped me to enjoy the experience of being a Figure athlete. I have learned new exercises like reverse hyperextensions, up-n-backs and others. Also, I like his cardio routines. It is great to have variation when it comes to do cardio (18 different programs).  It has been a great learning experience for me.”

Catalina Illades ~Masters Figure Athlete

“Mike Davies totally transformed my physique for my second figure competition.  I have never looked and felt so amazing while prepping for a show.  He is totally awesome!!!!!”

Lynn Cullen ~ Figure Athlete

“Mike Davies has saved my life. I could not imagine living, training, eating, competing without him (and Shannon Gill of course.) But really...I could write a page on how much working with you and Mike has changed my life. I am a better competitor and I am really an all around happier person and I want to thank you for that as well! J

Christine Moore ~ Figure Athlete

“After working with Mike Davies  for a long time I finally was able to make it to a camp. All along I had thought I was training hard enough, and pushing myself to my limit. I learnt quickly at camp that Mike brought out in me a passion to push myself further than I thought possible. His experience and compassion for his athletes is what made me a national champion. He taught me that hard work, tenacity, and a bulldog attitude is what it would take to push me to the next level.  My workouts are never boring, everyday is new and exciting. My nutrition is easy to follow and I never feel deprived. The best part about working with Mike is that just when you think you can't make it, or that the road is too long, he has a way of reminding you why you started the journey and how good it will end.”

Jennifer Jewell – Fitness/Figure Athlete

2009 FitStop24 Northwestern Championship PICTURES

What a Great Show to close out the competition season here in the Pacific Northwest!

Nic Younis and his gang put on another perfect contest, and I was happy to judge the contest. Everyone brought some rock solid physiques, and I was REALLY impressed with everyone who competed. It's great to see athletes carry on their physiques this late in the season, and to see some folks there to re-qualify for Nationals, or to use this show as a Warm up for Nationals. It really brings the level of the contest WAY up, making it a very competitive line up, in which you could see by the ending judging paperwork.

Jim Wallingford was on hand to take photos of the Evening show. Go Check the Pix out at:

Everyone keep training!

Happy Birthday Sheila Salinas!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEILA!!!!!

The story goes like this......

I watched Sheila compete a few times locally, and she was such an intense & a very interesting athlete...Gorgeous curly BIG hair, Giant eyes that stood out, really loooooong limbs, and a HUGE toothy grin! This girl was SHREDDED beyond belief!

Sheila, back then....good posing, but not the best. Good presentation, well, not that good unfortunately.

I grabbed her backstage at the Emerald Cup and told her how much I was a huge fan of hers, since i've seen her compete, and I really wanted her to do so much better, hoping to help her realize her full potential. I handed her my business card, flashed my big smile...and waited...

Sheila didn't call me for sooooome time, but yep! She finally did!

We completely changed her look, and with her beginning to work with Mike Davies, Shelia began on her trek to stardom!

Sheila not only won her Over 35+ Figure Class at the 2009 Vancouver Classic, She also won her Over 35 Class and nabbed the OVERALL Masters Figure Title at the 2009 Emerald Cup!

Success stores bring tears to my eyes!!!

Great job Sheila, and keep up the hard work, I cannot wait to see what 2010 holds for you!

PLANNING YOUR YEAR.....

About this time of year (beginning of November) I have already planned out the next years' events.

Really?!

YES... As athletes, you should start preparing and planning for your seasons....the season BEFORE you prep for your SEASON.....got that? Ha!

For most of you, you have purchased my SG2Victory CONTEST BINDER with the Calender tab. NOW the time to put in the 2010 calender and pencil in Local and National contests. You can find the new listings of the shows in January on NPCNEWSONLINE.COM  . Some 2010 shows are already listed. The PDF file is continually updated often, so keep checking the site throughout the spring!

I would always suggest making two separate calenders

1) - Personal (with Birthdays, kid events, family trips, holidays, paydays, and events)
2) - Fitness (with shows, practice dates, dress rehearsal dates, when to take work off for your contest, when to paint, etc...)

This way you can fill in one with your family and refer back to your contest calender and visa versa.

You are more than welcome to put everything into one, but I like the separation for my own focus....I need to keep my head in the competition game at some times (without seeing cousin Natalie's birthday party coming and me feeling guilty I cannot buy a gift etc..) and other times, I need to focus on my family and friends' engagements without feeling the pressures of "gosh, 44 weeks till my show!)

You SHOULD know when all of your local shows are...how many of them per month, what city they are in, and if it's a show that you might be interested in either competing in, or attending. You can print out the NPC Schedule and keep a copy in your binder for reference. Note: some shows do not have all catagories...some do not have fitness, some only do open figure, and some do not have Bikini - Educate yourself by going to the contest website and read up! I have a folder in my Browser "Favorites" for easy recall for Promoters.

Sketching out a rough draft of training schedules will help you not feel so overwhelmed, and give you a clear direction on your goals...remember, there is a lot of planning that leads you to your contest....you should know exactly what to expect every week leading up to your show, so you can plan, and be at ease...PLUS - we are usually a bit more fatigued than usual, and trying to plan while dieting and training aggressively can sometimes prove tricky!

AND - another added benefit is knowing what you expect of yourself to get you to your fitness goals - knowing that for the next 12 weeks you have double cardio days at least 3 days a week or more, will help you plan family and friend events. Keeping a balanced schedule is key to ultimate happiness...no surprises!

Let's be honest - there will ALWAYS AND FOREVER be things that pop up into your life that will Derail you, Test you, and get your panties in a bunch....as long as things are written down, then you can more clearly plan out your plan of attack....you got to ROLL with the punches...

So - Get those 2010 Calenders In those Binders, and start writing this out!
